Websites, lists, resources, and Publishers that provide LGBTQ+ literature and media.

Are you lost in a sea of heteronormativity?

Frustrated that you're getting queer baited?

Do you need canonical queer characters?

Well, good for you, you're in the right place!

As a young, immortal soul I always lamented the lack of viable Queer reads. It's so hard to relate to characters when you are a Void entity that has not lived among humans since before they had opposable thumbs. However, Queer characters have always resounded with me--perhaps its the fact that I am an asexual, genderless creature from before time began.

Anyways, self-discovery aside...

Below is a non-comprehensive get started list of publishers, websites, and recommendation lists with Verified Queer Characters.

Websites:

Queerbooksforteens.com

This site is currently in Beta, however, it is already fantastic! You can search via a menu of sexualities, gender identities, romantic orientations, genres, races, and more. In each description of a selected title it will highlight the representation. A nice touch is the option to reveal possible triggering content for the sake of readers.

Lambdaliterary.org

This organization offers a variety of services to their viewers. There are book clubs, lists of LGBT+ publishers, reviews, book lists, and much more on their user-friendly website

Lists:

This list is well organized and showcases asexual representation on a variety of formats. From video games, comics, and movies to podcasts and different forms of literature--all organized and separated by genre! Reviews are linked when available and details on the type and frequency of representation are given.

Run by the Timberland Regional Library , this Pinterest board lists LGBT+/Queer books for Teens and Young Adults. Titles listed here range from fiction of all genres, non-fiction, poetry, graphic novels, movies and television, and classical literature. The board is updated frequently and, having just been created in January of this year, already has over a hundred different titles.

Publishers:

Riptide is a well known publishing company that is entirely devoted to LGBT+/Queer works. Their founders set out to provide an author-friendly publisher that fulfilled the desires of the Queer community market.

This publisher solely works on Lesbian fiction. Their genres stretch to include thrillers, mysteries, erotica, historical fiction, paranormal, and fluffy romance. They have award winning titles, best-sellers, audio books, and e-books. They even have a German sister-company!

Enjoy these tasty treats, Mortals, there will be more in the future!

Keep consuming, keep demanding, the Void will answer.

In the meantime, stay gay*.

"Gay" here is used as an umbrella term to encompass all--and because it rhymes with stay.
